Assembly of Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV) within the host cell

The formation of HCMV capsid takes place in the nucleus of the host cell. The cluster of capsid particles in the nucleus appears as the 'inclusion body' under the light microscope. The capsid particles are then transported across the nuclear envelope to enter the cytoplasm, where they acquire other viral components as well as the envelope membrane near the Golgi apparatus. Peudo-color and labels added with Photoshop CS4.
