Mouse hair follicle with typical bulge area
The bulge area (arrow) is a cluster of self-renewing cells associated with the hair follicle.
It is located beneath the erector muscle and the sebaceous glands and believed to have played a critical role for the re-growth of the hair follicle.
The image shows PCNA labeling in all the nuclei of the bulge area.
