Direct Services:

Investigator Performed
The facility offers training for investigator performed analysis on all bench-top analyzers. BD FACS Aria II cell sorter training is also available upon staff approval.

Facility Performed
The staff performs special cell sorting applications on the BD FACS Aria II, BD FACSVantage SE, BD Influx and BD FACS Jazz. Besides instrument training, the Directors and staff are always available for consultation on experimental design and to provide support for data acquisition for applications such as: immunophenotyping, rare event studies, functional probes, DNA cell cycle and apoptosis.

Flow Cytometry Data Analysis Services:

The Facility can advise and/or collaborate on implementing advanced data analysis methods for large-scale experiments in conjunction with Dr. Wade Rogers. Investigators may also access commercial data analysis software either by licensing through the Facility (for a quarterly fee) or by using a workstation maintained by the Facility.

Web-Based Tools For Access:

Increasingly, the lab is using web-based tools to enhance accessibility for users. Through our website investigators can register for facility usage, request training, as well as schedule appointments online. Also, the facility has developed a robust and secure server for data access, storage and archiving.

Education Program: Recognizing the complexity of cytomics, the Penn Cytomics and Cell Sorting Resource Laboratory has developed an educational program to enable investigators to make optimal and efficient use of the technology. Our training and consultation program is a model for other shared resource labs throughout the country. Central to this program is a series of formal classes in the scientific basis of the technology and hands-on tutorials in the use of the bench top cytometers and in data analysis. The Introduction to Flow Cytometry lecture is required for use of the laboratory instrumentation. Through consultation with users a customized curriculum can be designed and specialized application classes can be created.
